HCL-SE2: Bosham vs Bedhampton II - Sat 3 July 2010

Bosham bash Bedhampton

Duncan Barratt (76), David Goodman (61), Nick Outram (54) and Sam Gilliatt (61) all scored half-centuries as Bosham amassed a winning total of 353 runs from 42 overs against Bedhampton. After toiling in the field for most of the afternoon a dispirited Bedhampton team offered little in reply and even with a 48 from captain Greg Hoolihan were all dismissed for 123.

Barratt set about the opening bowlers, McIntyre and Thompson, from the very first ball and he uncannily kept the strike for most of the opening overs leaving his partner Tom Gilliatt anchored at the non-strikers end. Barratt raced to 76 without giving a single chance but as he look set for a hundred offered up a simple return catch to veteran bowler Chaz Chace.

Goodman played a sensible role and rotated the strike while Outram and then Sam Gilliatt outdid each other with six hitting. Barratt had hit two sixes in his innings and a welcome return to form enabled Outram to hit three maximums in his innings of 54. However, Gilliatt smashed three of his first four scoring shots over the ropes and went on to score a total of 6 sixes in his total of 61.

Bedhampton players spent so long chasing and retrieving the ball from all corners of the Oaklands Park pitch that by the time it was their turn to bat they offered little resistance. Some good shot making from Hoolihan restored some pride but all other batsmen went cheaply including 4 ducks. Tom Gilliatt with 3 for 40 and John Barnett with 3 for 44 did most of the damage. Bedhampton were dismissed 230 runs short of the target in just 23.1 overs.
