HCL-SE2: Ryde II vs Bosham - Saturday 17 July

posted 19 Jul 2010, 04:11 by Martin Farrell
A fine innings of 74 from Cameron White helped Ryde to a comprehensive win over Bosham that ensures the Isle of Wight team remain top of South East Division 2.

On a good batting track Dominic Hillyard made the unsurprising decision to bat first when he won the toss. The Ryde opening pair of Dil Dhillon and Toby Jackson started well and by the fourteenth over had added 65 when Jackson uncharacteristically hit across the line and was bowled by Martin Farrell.

White replaced Jackson and batted with authority as he accumulated a faultless 74 runs that included 11 fours. He was ably supported by James Cutting (48) and Sean Tiltman (38) as Ryde set an impressive 259 for 4 at the close. White was denied a century when Mark Allen took a brilliant catch at first slip of the bowling of John Barnett.

Bosham opened their batting with a father and son combination of Duncan and George Barratt. The pair started well and successfully batted through the opening spell of Jackson and Keith Cooper. The partnership was broken in the twelfth over when Duncan Barratt was bowled by Lewis with the score on 60.

David Goodman continued his fine batting form this season by scoring 65 until he was run out with a direct hit from Cooper in the final overs. By this stage Bosham had fallen behind the required rate thanks to some very accurate bowling from Gavin Moody and Steve Lewis. The pair successfully contained the Bosham batsmen who ended the afternoon just seven wickets down but 90 runs short of their target.
